Local archers qualify for nationals
The state meet for the Washington archery teams ended with a lot of success for the Demons.

The state meet for the Washington archery teams ended with a lot of success for the Demons.
The combined efforts of Lincoln Elementary, Washington Middle School and Washington High School helped the Demons qualify 16 archers to the national tournament, held May 7-9 in Louisville, Ky.
Lincoln Elementary took fifth in the state as a team, with a score of 2,922, finishing behind eventual champion Mount Vernon, who had 3,083.
Leading the charge for the elementary teams were national qualifiers Kenna Rathmell and Olin Wells.
Wells shot a personal-best 276, putting him in third place for the elementary boys.
Rathmell also had one of her best shoots, putting up a 261, good for seventh place.
Individuals had to finish in the Top 10 to automatically qualify them for the national meet.
Bryce DeWolf scored a 262 for the elementary boys, putting him in 15th place, while Lane Frana had a 261 to put him in 17th place.
The middle school scored 3,061 points, to take 11th place at the meet, finishing behind Mount Vernon, who put together a 3,318.
Mitchell Driscoll had a 271, to lead the middle school boys, good for 38th place, while Samantha Mellinger had a 268, good for 36th in the middle school girls? competition.
Washington High School finished in 13th place at the meet with a 3,184, behind eventual champion Spencer?s 3,393.
John Sands had a 286 in the meet, placing 15th in the high school boys? competition and 17th overall.
Jade Wells led the girls? team with a 276, putting her in 24th place.
Out of the high school team, Sands and Wells qualified for the national meet, and will be joined by Joseph Dalziel, Kyle Basten, Alex Sinn, Grace Shafer-Smith, Kylee Porter, Chloe Schlatter, Kennedy Hyde, Jake Crider, Shelby Mineart, Jessica Hora, Levi Black and Carolan Hoffman in Louisville.
