Local boys? teams impress at Demon Relays
Many area teams got their chance to show what they could do early in the season on Tuesday afternoon.
Six boys? track teams in the coverage area stretched their legs at the Demon Relays, with Mid-Prairie claiming the Class B title.
The meet was split into three classes, with Washington in Class A, Mid-Prairie in Class B and WACO, Keota, Highland and Columbus in Class C.

Many area teams got their chance to show what they could do early in the season on Tuesday afternoon.
Six boys? track teams in the coverage area stretched their legs at the Demon Relays, with Mid-Prairie claiming the Class B title.
The meet was split into three classes, with Washington in Class A, Mid-Prairie in Class B and WACO, Keota, Highland and Columbus in Class C.

Mid-Prairie
The Class B team title for the Golden Hawks came with 12 top 3 finishes on the day, led by a trio of field event titles.
Levi Duwa claimed the Class B shot put crown with a throw of 50 feet ? 9.5 inches, while also picking up the discus title with a toss of 159 feet ? 6 inches.
Marshal Teets also picked up a title in the high jump, clearing 5 feet ? 8 inches on the day.
Mid-Prairie picked up the top two spots in each of the 800- and 1600-meter runs on Tuesday, with Ryan Errthum and Luke Sigler finishing back to back in the 800. Sigler and Andrew Schwarz earned the top two spots in the 1600.
Floyd Evans claimed the Class B 3200-meter title, with a time of 10:35.37.

The Wildcats put together a strong meet in Class C, earning nine top 3 finishes on the day.
The big success for Columbus came in the relays, where they won the 4x100 and 4x200-meter titles with their sprint team of Ruben Paz, Devon Henry, Abel Mena and Mauricio Ramirez.
Ramirez also finished second in the 100-meter dash and the long jump, while Henry took second in the high jump.
Mena claimed second place in the 200-meter dash, posting a time of 24.22.

The Warrior boys? track team had four Class C titles at the Demon Relays, three of which came from one athlete.
Bryce Achen picked up titles in the 100- and 200-meter dashes, while also claiming the 110-meter hurdle title as well.
WACO?s shuttle hurdle relay team of Beau Beckler, Justyn Chalupa, Colton Horak and Jorge Chacon combined to give the Warriors a first-place finish, with a 1:07.08
WACO junior Jackson Roth claimed second place in the 800-meter run, while Beckler finished in third place for the 110-meter hurdles.

The Huskies were paced by six individual top 10 finishes on the day, and two top 3 relays.
Highland senior Keiffer Sexton excelled in the distance events, claiming titles in the 1600- and 3200-meter runs on the day.
In the sprints, Billy Burton took sixth in the 100-meter dash, while Mason Manley and Cory Stewart finished in sixth and eighth respectively in the 400-meter dash.
Jared Gringer took seventh place in the 400-meter hurdles for the Huskies.
Highland nabbed third-place finishes in the 4x400- and 4x800-meter relays on the day.

The Eagle boys? track team opened up their season strong at the Demon Relays, claiming four second-place finishes.
Turner Klein ran well in the distance events, picking up second place in both the 1600- and 3200-meter runs, averaging a 5:19 mile in both events.
Zach Mousel picked up a strong day in the 400-meter dash to pick up second place, while helping the sprint medley team of Luke Greiner, Nate Sieren and Klein to a second place finish.
Greiner also added a third-place finish in the long jump to his day.
