Local deer hunters to receive award

CEDAR FALLS ? Thomas Cochran, Mt. Pleasant, and Kenneth Hawkins, Salem, have been invited to receive the 2011 Trophy Buck Print Award at the 37th Annual Eastern Iowa Sportshow.

The Sportshow is scheduled for March 9-11 at the UNI-Dome in Cedar Falls.

The Trophy Buck Print Award recognizes trophy bucks taken in Iowa and registered with the Department of Natural Resources in the 2010-2011 hunting season.

Cochran harvested a deer in Henry County that scored 143-6/8 points in the Bow - Typical category.

Hawkins also harvested a deer in Henry County, and his scored 171-2/8 points in the Crossbow - Non-Typical category.

The ?Trophy Buck? awardees will receive a commemorative, signed and serialized print by artist Greg Bordignon, who will present the awards at the show.

Nearly 475 Iowans harvested a trophy buck during the 2010-2011 Iowa deer-hunting season and registered it with the DNR. To qualify, a buck?s rack must meet or exceed specific minimum scores, as determined by the DNR.
