BURLINGTON — The area’s senior All-Stars took part in Saturday night’s Southeast Iowa All-Star festivities at Notre Dame High School. It was a memorable night for a some of the best basketball players Southeast Iowa has to offer.
The night was filled with highlights, including a game-winning putback layup by Winfield-Mount Union’s Josie Nelson in the girls’ game. Nelson rebounded her own miss and scored in the final seconds to help her team win the game 46-44.
The night included two three-point contests and a dunk contest. The three-point contests were swept by Union area athletes, as Pekins’ Renae Eubanks won the girls’ shootout with eight three-pointers, and Izaak Loeffler of Van Buren County won the boys’ shootout with 13.
There was also a special three-point contests for local coaches. New London girls basketball coach Austin Burns competed in the contest, as did former Iowa Wesleyan standout Kaleb Cresswell.
