Despite the season ending sooner than they would have liked, the Washington baseball team was well represented on the Southeast Iowa Conference postseason team.
The Demons went 17-14 on the season (7-7 in conference action) but were bounced in the first round of the postseason, falling to eventual state qualifier Solon.
Washington?s postseason selections were highlighted by first-team All-SEC member Zach Londberg.
The junior switched between pitching and playing as the Demons? designated hitter this season, and his stellar numbers on the year helped him notch a utility spot on this season?s team.
Londberg was the team leader offensively, claiming team bests in average (.402), slugging percentage (.587), RBIs (27), triples (2) while tying for the team lead in doubles (10) and hits (37).
On the mound, the junior was equally effective, going 7-1 in his 11 appearances (seven starts), and posting a 1.13 ERA in 49 2/3 innings pitched.
He struck out 34 batters and walked 13 over that span, limiting opposing batters to a .184 average against him.
A pair of Demons earned second-team honors, with senior Michael Ellingson earning the nod in the infield.
Ellingson batted .342 in his final campaign for the Demons, getting on base at a clip of .422. He finished the year third on the team with 19 runs scored, driving in 11 RBIs and notching 25 hits on the year.
He also threw 11 innings of relief for the Demons, earning a win and posting a 4.45 ERA.
Joining Ellingson on the All-SEC second team is junior Ryan Loy, who was the regular right fielder for the Demons.
Spending much of his season in the No. 3 batting slot, Loy notched a .370 batting average with a .417 on-base percentage, to go with a .470 slugging percentage.
Loy notched 21 RBIs and tied for the team lead in runs scored with 23. He finished the year tied for the team lead in doubles with 10, and led the team in hits with 37.
Collin Zear claimed a pitcher spot on the second-team All-Conference lists, using a 2.44 ERA in his 37 1/3 innings of work to earn the nod. Zear struck out 32 batters on the year, holding opponents to a batting average of .188 against him, but took a few tough losses on the year, finishing at 2-3 on the mound.
Offensively, Zear batted .277 with a .341 on-base percentage, scoring 18 runs and driving in 17 RBIs.
Two Demons earned honorable mention to the All-Conference squad, led by the Demons? walk leader Michael Gier.
Gier drew 27 walks on the season to post an on-base percentage of .505 (best on the team) while hitting safely 19 times to post an average of .288.
He claimed 21 RBIs and scored 19 runs for the Demons, while also starting three games on the mound, going 1-2 in 23 innings of work, striking out 24 batters to post a 3.65 ERA.
Noah Enfield was the other honorable mention after posting a tremendous year in center field and rising to the top of the Demon order in the middle of the season.
Enfield batted .298 on the year, getting on base at a clip of .371 and slugging .394, while driving in 17 runs.
Enfield led the team in runs scored, with 23, while also swiping a team-best 12 bags on the year. Enfield finished the year with 28 hits, four doubles, a triple and a homerun.
