Lone Tree turned three Highland turnovers into points in the first quarter of Friday?s game, and the Lions led 27-0 at the end of the first quarter. From there, Lone Tree rolled to a 47-14 win over the rival Huskies.
After recovering a Highland fumble early in the game, Lone Tree senior quarterback Gabe Lorack ran for a 6-yard touchdown. The Huskies answered with a long drive and were poised to score when Lone Tree senior Lucas Sieverding jumped in front of a pass and returned it 93 yards for a touchdown. After a Highland punt, Lorack ran for a 56-yard touchdown. And then Lone Tree senior Bryan Forbes returned an interception for a touchdown to make it 27-0 after 12 minutes of play.
Highland (3-2, 2-1 Class A District 5) tried to close the gap. Senior Derrick Stewart ran for a 19-yard touchdown and later returned a kickoff 95 yards for a score that trimmed the Lions? lead to 33-14. But Lone Tree (3-2, 3-0 District 5) added another score before halftime and one in the second half to seal the win.
Lorack ran for 171 yards and two touchdowns, and he completed all four of his passes for 119 yards and two scores. Sieverding ran for 92 yards and a touchdown.
