Long day in Ottumwa

OTTUMWA - It was a long day for local volleyball teams Saturday in Ottumwa. Fairfield won one match of five played while Mt. Pleasant won once in three contests and Washington lost all three matches.
Mt. Pleasant is 7-12 on the season and Fairfield is 4-9. The two teams meet tonight in Fairfield. Washington is 0-10 and hosts Burlington tonight.
The Fairfield and EBF score was 21-15, 21-19 and Ottumwa escaped 24-22, 21-10 while Albia was 21-19, 21-15, all Fairfield losses in pool play. In tournament play, Fairfield defeated Washington 26-24, 25-19 but fell to EBF again, this time 25-17, 25-17.
On the day, Danielle Breen served four aces while Maddie Jones and Kiya Robertson had three each for the Trojans. Anna Dunlap tallied 17 kills on 53-of-65 attacks. Ellie Anderson recorded nine kills, Mallory Lyon eight and Breen five. Jones set 37 assists. Robertson had 33 digs, Dunlap 24 then Jones, Breen and Olivia Jones had 14 apiece. Mallory Lyon and Anderson notched four blocks each. Sara Kretz, Dunlap and Allison had two each.
Mt. Pleasant fell to Davis County 25-15, 25-22, defeated Washington 25-18, 25-15, and lost to Ottumwa 25-19, 25-14.
Other than the Fairfield and Mt. Pleasant matches, Washington lost to Davis County 25-17, 25-16.
Olivia Marek recorded 11 kills, nine blocks and six aces on the day for the Demons. Taylor Brinning had two kills and 26 digs. Brynn Beenblossom registered six kills and two blocks. Emma Nichols put up 16 assists and got down for 16 digs. Keira Messinger had 34 digs and five aces and Remy Messinger 19 digs.
