With the fall sports season nearly complete, it means the winter sports season is right around the corner.
Which means another season of boys and girls Southeast Iowa Super Conference North and South basketball.
With girls basketball already in practice mode and the boys not far behind the 2024-25 season is near.
Before the season hits full swing, we’ll take a look back to last year to shed some light on how this season might play out.
The 2023-24 girls SEISC North season was a competitive one, but was taken outright by Lone Tree.
Lone Tree suffered just two conference losses on the season, one of those two defeats came against Columbus, who finished second. The second loss was at the hands of WACO who ended in fourth.
Columbus finished with a pair of conference losses as well, a one point loss to Highland and then Lone Tree.
Highland closed the season one game back from the Wildcats in third. WACO suffered five conference defeats, but did notch wins over both Lone Tree and Highland.
Pekin followed WACO with six SEISC North wins, Wapello won five, Louisa-Muscatine four, Hillcrest Academy three and Winfield-Mt. Union two.
In the SEISC South, both Holy Trinity Catholic and Danville finished with 12 wins and just two losses.
One of the Crusaders losses came against the Bears, while the other was from Burlington Notre Dame.
Danville suffered both of its conference losses across the first three games of the season. A big loss to third place Mediapolis to start the season and then one from Holy Trinity in game three.
They never lost against in SEISC play.
Mediapolis’ three South losses came against HTC twice and Danville once. Notre Dame followed with nine SEISC wins, Central Lee posted six, Van Buren County finished with four wins, West Burlington two and New London one.
On the boys’ side, the North division was ruled by state semifinalist Winfield-Mt. Union. The Wolves posted a perfect 15-0 conference record last season, bowing out at state to eventual state champion North Linn.
WACO followed with just two North defeats and 14 wins, with the two losses coming against the Wolves.
Hillcrest Academy won 10 games, while losing five. The Ravens lost twice to both WACO and WMU along with Pekin once.
Pekin and Louisa-Muscatine both finished with nine wins. Wapello carded five wins, Columbus four, Lone Tree three and Highland none.
In the South Division, state quarterfinalist West Burlington reined supreme winning 14 games with zero losses.
Holy Trinity Catholic and Burlington Notre Dame both ended with 10 wins and four losses. Danville and Mediapolis each went 7-7.
Central Lee finished with six wins, New London picked up two victories and Van Buren County zero.
