The Iowa Print Sports Writers Association released its 2021-22 All-State girls basketball list on Tuesday at midnight, and the Union coverage area had three names grace the list, one each in three different classes.
Mt. Pleasant’s Andrea Lopreato, Mid-Prairie’s Maddie Nonnenmann and Winfield-Mount Union’s Bradie Buffington were all given the nod, each seeing their names on their respective third teams.
Lopreato, a junior, was one of three Southeast Conference players to make the Class 4A list. The Panther star scored a team-high 21.3 points per game this year, and nearly averaged a double-double, pulling down 9.9 rebounds per game.
Lorpeato was fourth in Class 4A in scoring, second in rebounds and third in assists, with 4.3 helpers per game. She also finished Top-6 in steals, swiping 3.9, and tied for 12th in blocks, with 1.3.
During the season, Lopreato broke a school record for points in a game by a junior, putting in 35 against Burlington. That was just two points off her own school record for points in a game, which she set as a sophomore.
It was Lopreato’s second All-State honor with one year of high school left to go.
Nonnenmann earns her first All-State nod as a senior. The Mid-Prairie stand out put up 15.8 points per game, third best in the entire River Valley South division.
Nonnenmann was also active on the boards, pulling down 5.3 rebounds per game. Defensively she was a menace, with 1.8 steals per game and 1.2 blocks per game.
Buffington, a junior, earns her first All-State nod after leading the team with 15 points per game this year. Like Lopreato, Buffington was a double-double machine this year and nearly averaged one, yanking down 9.5 rebounds per game.
Buffington finished fifth in the Southeast Iowa Super Conference North Division in scoring and fifth in points.
Buffington was another player who also stood out on the defensive side of the ball. She finished with 1.1 steals per game and 0.9 blocks per game.
