PACKWOOD ? Without star player Trey Sathoff, the Panthers managed to take care of business on the defensive side of the court and cruised to a 55-21 win over rival Cardinal Thursday in Packwood.
Pekin (3-1, 2-1 SEISC north) allowed just four points on defense in the first period and 10 in the second while building a 36-14 lead at halftime. The Panthers allowed another seven points after that, including four in the third quarter and another three points in the final period. Though the Panthers led 55-18 after three quarters, the Comets (1-3, 1-2 SEISC south) held Pekin to zero points in the final period.
Tater Clubb led the Panthers with 12 points on 6-of-7 shooting. Tyson Lamb added 10 points, three assists and three steals, and Bryce Sines and Josh Sterling scored seven and six points, respectively. Bailey Donovan, Seth Jensen, Nate Buch and Graham Wittrock scored five points apiece. Buch also had three assists and four steals, while Jensen had a team-high nine rebounds.
Cardinal?s Donny Teninty scored four points and recorded three steals. Cody Carter scored four points and Jonathan Pedersen secured five boards.
Sathoff, sitting out with an injured foot from Tuesday?s game against Winfield-Mount Union, will have his foot reevaluated today by the Panthers? coaching staff.
?If he?s not ready to go tonight he?ll be ready to go next week,? said head coach Ken Hutchinson.
Today the Panthers travel to Louisa-Muscatine, and Cardinal will be at Burlington-Notre Dame.
