Lowenberg picks up all-SEC recognition

Fairfield senior Davis Lowenberg is a first-time selection to the all-Southeast Conference second team after leading the Fairfield boys? basketball team to an 8-14 record in 2011-12.
Lowenberg was fifth in the SEC in both scoring (12.5 ppg) and rebounding (6.3 rpg) this season. The power forward also led the Trojans in blocks with 12.
Senior teammates Brent Buch and Cody Kool were all-SEC honorable mention. Buch, a shooting guard, was the Trojans? second scoring option and tallied 221 points while connecting on 75 percent of his free throws. At center, Kool averaged seven points and eight boards per contest while starting all 22 games for Fairfield.
Four Fairfield players and two managers made the conference?s all-academic squad. Lowenberg, Nathan Barker, Darrin Dimmitt and Kyle Weirup plus managers Jennifer Clements and Ashley Shields received all-academic recognition.
Jordan Ashton of Mount Pleasant was named the conference?s player of the year. Ashton was the Panthers? main scoring option with 18.4 points per game while leading them into the postseason. At 23-1 overall, Mount Pleasant leads the conference with four all-conference selections.
