Loy and Latcham lead the Demons in West Liberty
Washington?s Stephanie Loy and Austin Latcham both had top-10 finishes to lead the Demon girls? and boys? cross-country teams, respectively, at Tuesday?s meet at the West Liberty Golf and Country Club.

Washington?s Stephanie Loy and Austin Latcham both had top-10 finishes to lead the Demon girls? and boys? cross-country teams, respectively, at Tuesday?s meet at the West Liberty Golf and Country Club.
Loy, a sophomore, took sixth place in the girls? race, crossing the finish line in 18:30.
?Stephanie is really consistent,? Washington head coach Steve Roth said. ?She got out well and moved up after the first couple of miles. She had a nice sprint at the end, too.?
Loy led the Demon girls, who totaled 101 points and finished fourth out of six teams. Senior Kaitlin Buchholz came in 16
th
in 19:35, and sophomore Sarah Greiner was 21
st
in 19:53. Senior Maddie Bohr finished 26
th
in 20:08, and sophomore Jennie Greene?s 31
st
-place finish in 20:34 rounded out the scoring. Senior Sara Conwell, who Roth said was battling an illness, came in 33

in 21:16.
?The whole girls? squad competed very well,? Roth said.
Four Demons finished in the top seven in the girls? junior varsity race. Junior Chayse Jaspering, who ran for the second time this year, took second place in 22:32. Sophomore Aaliyah Brown came in fourth in 24:24, and junior Dema Giardino, who was running her first race of the season, was fifth in 24:32. Sophomore Jalyssa Jepson placed seventh in 24:47.
Latcham, a junior, took 10
th
place in the boys? race, crossing the finish line in a career-best 19:26.
?Austin had a really nice run, and that?s where I thought he?d be at the beginning of the year,? Roth said. ?Being a new guy, he didn?t really understand how to run the race, but now he?s starting to get it. He really started out strong and he had a nice kick at the end. As he goes along, I think he?ll get better and better.?
The Demon boys totaled 100 points and finished fifth out of six teams at the meet.
Sophomore Curtis Vest, who led the Demons at their first two meets of the season, struggled a bit on the hilly West Liberty course and finished 16
th
in 20:04. Senior Brandon Rhinhart stuck with Latcham and Vest throughout Tuesday?s race and came in 17
th
in a career-best time of 20:08. Senior Logan Moeller finished 31
st
in 22:08, and junior Jiovanni Tapia ran a career-best time of 23:07 to finish 37

?Jiovanni ran his best time and looked really strong,? Roth said. ?He looked relaxed and comfortable.?
Junior Chase Litchfield finished 36

in the junior varsity race, crossing the finish line in 29:21.
Roth was pleased with the improvement his runners showed at Tuesday?s meet.
?Last Thursday we ran really tired, and I thought that prepared us for this meet,? he said. ?It was a hilly golf course, and I thought they performed really well.?
