SOUTH TAMA — The 2022 boys tennis season came to an end on Wednesday for the Maharishi pioneers.
The Pioneers were eliminated 5-0 by Boone in the district semifinals, two games before the state tournament.
Zak Askar dropped the No. 1 singles match 6-1, 6-0. Ruimin Luo fell 6-4, 6-3 in the No. 2 match. Jayanta Wegman lost 6-3, 6-2 in the No. 3 match. Dominic Duboux fell 6-4, 7-6(7-5) in the No. 5 game, and No. 6 Gabriel “Chacho” Roester fell 6-2, 6-2.
“We fought,” said Pioneers coach Steve Briggs. “But Boone lobbed us into submission. Boone’s strategy was straight forward. Their arsenal consisted of grit and the ability to win the war of attrition. It’s a battle plan we’ve struggled to overcome in the past.”
Maharishi ended the season 10-6.
