Maharishi girls shutout Mt. Pleasant
Pioneer tennis looks sharp after 8-day rest

MT. PLEASANT — It had been eight days since the Maharishi girls tennis team kicked off its 2022 season with a 9-0 win over Centerville, and the Pioneers were right back at it on Tuesday night. Maharishi recorded its second-straight shut out victory with a 9-0 win over the hosting Panthers.
Maharishi rolled in the singles competition, winning every match by at least six. This included 8-0 wins by Lily Fenton over Melanie Olivas in the No. 1 singles game, and Daira Valls over Ale Carillo in the No. 6 matchup.
Maharishi’s Ishita Mukhadam defeated Mt. Pleasant’s Gisele Fajardo-Pena 8-1 in the No. 2 match. Vaisnavii Mohanraj also won 8-1, defeating Malena Yocum in the No. 3 match.
Eva Rounceville put up Mt. Pleasant’s best fight in singles. Bella Castle defeated Rounceville 8-2 in the No. 4 match. Sara Valls picked up another win for Maharishi, defeating Ellie Situmeang 8-1 in the No. 5 match.
Maharishi kept the good times rolling in doubles. Fenton and Mukhadam stayed red-hot, defeating Olivas and Fajardo-Pena 8-0 in the No. 1 singles match. Mohanraj and Castle defeated Yocum and Situmeang 8-2 in the No. 2 match, and Valls and Valls defeated Rounceville and Carrillo 8-2 in the No. 3 match.
Maharishi is now 2-0. They’ll play at the Fort Madison tournament on Saturday. Mt. Pleasant (0-5) will host Keokuk on Thursday.
