The Fairfield community school district board of directors recently approved the extension of a cooperative relationship between Maharishi School and Fairfield High to allow the joint playing of boys' soccer together.
'Maharishi had a hard time fielding their own soccer team, so they asked if they could co-op with us,” explained FHS activities director Jeff Courtright. 'A lot of the kids go through the same youth organization and are used to playing with each other, so it's not like we were bringing in kids that our kids weren't familiar with. They grew up playing together and it's the same community, so we thought it would be a good thing to do and it's been successful all along and we've been doing it for 3-4 years. We've done it before with boys and girls track, girls soccer and baseball, and Mt. Pleasant has at times co-oped with us for girls swimming and we currently send boys to Ottumwa for swimming.”
Although the relationship is strong, there were no Maharishi students on the 2019 roster for FHS boys' soccer team that finished 10-7 and won the Southeast Conference.
