Maharishi tennis tops Fairfield
Trojans grab two doubles wins, but couldn't come away with victory

FAIRFIELD — High school boys tennis action in Fairfield on Thursday night was a battle between the town’s two schools.
The Fairfield Trojans squared off against the Pioneers of Maharishi.
Maharishi won the night with a 6-3 victory over the Trojans.
In the No. 1 match, the Pioneer’s Ruimin Luo defeated the Trojans Garrett Flanagan 6-3 and 6-0 in a two set battle.
The Trojan’s lone singles’ victory came from Jace Hannes in the No. 2 match. Hannes defeated Jayanta Wegman 7-6 (7-4) and 6-4.
Maharishi followed with the four straight singles wins.
Polo Altynski-Ross downed Dil Hurlin 6-2 in a pair of sets.
Han (Xiaohan) Wang bested Ethan Cass 6-2 and 6-3 in back-to-back sets.
Gabriel “Chacho” Roesler won over Rylan Anderson 6-4 and 7-5.
Mekhi Kahiu was a winner over Niko Emerson 6-0 and 6-4 in two matches.
In doubles, the Trojans picked up two victories, but it wasn’t enough to pull out the team battle.
Fairfield’s Flanagan and Hannes were winners 9-8 (12-10) over Luo and Wegman.
In the No. 2 doubles bout, Wang and Roesler defeated Hurlin and Emerson 8-6.
Fairfield’s final victory came from Cass and Anderson, which was a 8-6 winner over Altynski-Ross and Kahiu.
With the victory, Maharishi improves to 3-1 on the season.
Fairfield drops to one game above .500 at 5-4.
