KEOSAUQUA - There was no stopping Van Buren County's Isabel Manning on Tuesday night. The Warriors' senior star tallied a triple-double to push VBC past Holy Trinity Catholic in a Southeast Iowa Super Conference South Division matchup. She tallied 39 points, 13 rebounds and 10 steals to push the Warriors to a 50-46 victory. The Warriors fell 64-40 in the boys game.
The VBC trailed 12-9 in the first quarter, but went on a 15-3 run in the second quarter to lead the Warriors to a 26-17 advantage at halftime.
The Crusaders cut the lead to two possessions before the third-quarter buzzer. VBC held a 37-32 lead heading into the final eight minutes, and Holy Trinity didn't have quite enough down the stretch to upend the Warriors.
Manning's 39-spot accounted for 78 percent of the team's 50 points. Ella Jirak scored three on the night. Jaelyn Boley, Kadence Nausbaum, Zoe Best and Annabell Cormier finished with two points each.
The VBC boys had an early lead. The Warriors led 12-8 after the first quarter, but Holy Trinity scored 16 points in the third to tie it up at 24-24 just before halftime.
VBC had trouble stopping HTC's Vasin Thurman in the second half. Thurman scored 24 points in the final two quarters, eight more than VBC scored as a team.
Jaxon Manning had 13 points for the VBC boys. Lane Davis scored 10.
The VBC girls are now 3-2 on the year. The boys are 0-4.
