Van Buren County's Isabelle Manning eclipsed the 1,000 points scored mark Friday in girls basketball action.
Manning's 37 not enough for VBC
BURLINGTON - Isabel Manning scored a career-high 37 points, eclipsing 1,000 in her career, but that wasn't enough for Van Buren County in its Southeast Iowa Super Conference South Division game at Notre Dame.
The Nikes knocked the Warriors off 70-51.
Manning was the only Warrior in double digits. Ella Jirak added four points and Zoe Best scored three.
Lugar's 24 topples Tigers
TIPTON - A 21-6 first quarter helped Mid-Prairie cruise to a 58-30 River Valley Conference win Friday.
Myah Lugar lit up the scoreboard with her shooting from long range, connecting on 4-of-7 3-pointers, 2-of-2 2-pointers and 8-for-8 on free throws, totaling 24 points to go with her six steals, three rebounds and two assists. Maddie Nonennmann was 7-for-8 from the field for 14 points with five rebounds and two assists.
Comets in victory column
FORT MADISON - The Cardinal girls basketball team grinded out a 37-33 road win at Holy Trinity in SEISC South Division play.
The Comets climbed back from an 18-15 halftime deficit as its defense helped Cardinal take the lead in the second half. A late HTC push brought the Crusaders within 36-33 with 30 seconds to play, but the Comets hung tough down the stretch to get in the winner's column.
WACO finishes for 1st victory
NEW LONDON - The Warriors led 33-30 to start the final quarter Friday and pulled away from the Tigers behind Ellah Kissell's 17 points and five rebounds for the 56-48 decision, the first win in three games.
Morgan Graber had 13 rebounds, three assists, two blocks, and nine points. WACO teammate Grace Coble took in 11 rebounds and handed out three assists. Tesla Malloy scored eight.
New London got 33 combined points from Ashlyn McSorley (16) and Marah Hartrick (17). Keaura Williams had 11 rebounds. McSorley dished out six assists.
Wolves wallop Bears
WINFIELD - Winfield-Mt. Union stayed red-hot with a 63-39 over Danville in a Southeast Iowa Super Conference crossover game. The Wolves dominated from start to finish, leading 39-17 at halftime and 53-28 after three quarters.
Jobey Malone scored 12 points in the win. Kyndal Townsley went for 11 points, nine rebounds and five assists. Farrah Nelson added 11 of her own.
Mepo 3s defeat Pekin
MEDIAPOLIS - Pekin led the North Division game 13-7 after a quarter but a 19-19 halftime score led to a 31-30 Pekin edge starting the fourth quarter. Tied again at 39, in the last minutes, the Bulettes won 44-42.
Pekin had just three girls in the scoring column with Kerrigan Pope at 18, Erika Coleman 17 and Sophie Wittrock seven. Pope had 14 rebounds, Wittrock four steals while Coleman had seven rebounds and three steals.
The Panthers made 15 2-pointers and a three while the home team made seven twos and eight threes. Pekin was 9-of-21 at the line and Mediapolis was 6-for-9.
Hallie Mohr poured in 20 for the winners and Haley Steffner hit four triples and a two for her 14 points.
Keota at Belle Plaine
BELLE PLAINE - Keota outscored the home team 29-27 after trailing 27-18 at halftime. Bree Shaull had 19 and Alyssa Tegeler 16 for Belle Plaine in the 54-47 South Iowa Cedar League win Friday.
