Mid-Prairie alum and recent Coe College graduate Mallory McArtor wrapped up her college softball career when the Kohawks were defeated 12-8 by St. Thomas College (Minnesota) at the NCAA DIII Softball Tournament.
McArtor?s play this year garnered her Second Team All-Conference honors in the Iowa Conference where she was ranked in the top 10 in five different league categories: first in stolen bases, tied for sixth in triples, seventh in plate appearances, tied for eighth hit by pitch and tied for 10th in home runs.
Mallory also had a conference-high four stolen bases in one game versus Dubuque and finished in the top 30 in the nation for DIII players with .76 stolen bases per game this season.
Over her four years at shortstop for the Kohawks, she started 162 of 163 games and played in all 163.
She was named First Team All-Conference and Second Team All Region in 2016 and ended her play with a career batting average of .309, on base percentage of .379 and slugging percentage of .459.
On defense, Mallory compiled a .921 career fielding percentage. In her four years at Coe, she had numerous season and career milestones that put her in the top 25 of almost every category.
Mallory?s college career may be done, but she will be playing this summer in the newly formed Iowa Women?s Softball League to be played in Cedar Rapids this summer.
The league will consist of current and former college players, with 10 weeks of Sunday doubleheaders played at the Coe College and Kirkwood College softball diamonds.
Mallory will also travel to Italy in early June to participate with other college players from the United States in a handful of exhibition games against local teams in that country.
She departed June 4 for Rome and will return June 15.
Upon return, Mallory will rejoin the Mid-Prairie coaching staff as varsity assistant coach for the Golden Hawk Softball team.
This fall, Mallory will attend graduate school at the University of Northern Iowa to pursue her master?s degree in psychology.
