DES MOINES — The 2024 Iowa high school state wrestling meet ended on Saturday night, and three Union area wrestlers made it all the way to the final session.
Fairfield’s Cael McCabe, WACO’s Louden Huisenga and Columbus/Winfield-Mount Union’s Russel Coil were all in championship matches on Saturday night. All fell one spot short of the gold.
At Class 2A 106 pounds, McCabe fell to Mount Vernon’s Klayten Perreault by a 7-1 decision. At Class 1A 190 pounds, Huisenga dropped a 9-3 decision to North Butler-Clarksville’s MaKade Bloker, and at Class 2A 285 pounds, Coil fell 8-3 to Osage’s Mac Muller.
All three of the Union area’s teams were pitted against the top seed in the bracket.
In the wrestlebacks, both Washington’s Aaron Boone (2A-132) and Fairfield’s Cason Miller (2A-157) finished fourth. WACO’s Gage Samo was sixth place at 1A-113.
