On a night when many area schools had games canceled, the Columbus girls? basketball team traveled to face Mediapolis, the No. 2 ranked team in Class 3A according to the latest polls, and fell 74-30.
Mediapolis jumped out to a quick 19-3 lead after one quarter and Columbus fell behind even further, 42-13, at halftime.
The Wildcats picked up 17 second-half points, behind the play of senior Kelsey Pretz, who led the team with 15 points in the contest.
Mediapolis shot a phenomenal 61 percent from the floor (30-of-49), while hitting on 53.8 percent of its 3-point attempts (7-of-13).
The Wildcats shot 28.9 percent from the floor (11-of-38) and were outrebounded 30-14.
Behind Pretz, the next highest scorer for the Wildcats was Claire Hamilton, who had five points in the game.
The Wildcats will prepare for a road contest against WACO on Friday night.
