Merschman leads Central Lee past Cardinal

DONNELLSON - Playing a conference road game against Central Lee isn't usually a lot of fun, but Hawks leading scorer Mya Merschman made it that much more frustrating for the Cardinal girls on Thursday night. Mershman scored 41 points to help Central Lee run past the Comets in SEISC South Division play.
Cardinal had a rough time stopping Mershman and the Hawks early on. Central Lee was able to build a big lead early, winning the first quarter 27-6 and taking the second period 20-11 to take a 47-17 lead into halftime.
The Comets played the Hawks a lot tougher in the second half. Central Lee took the third quarter 11-8 to stretch their lead to 58-25, but Cardinal had its best quarter in the fourth, taking it 10-8.
Maddie Cloke led the Comets with four points in the loss. Rachel Lewman finished the night with six points, four steals and three assists, Alexia McClure scored six points and dished out three assist sof her own.
Kolbie Bass had five points and three assists on the night. Kinsey Hissem came off the bench to score four points.
Cardinal is now 2-6 overall and 1-5 in conference play. They go into break riding a three-game losing streak.
When the Comets come out of the break, they'll host a South Division game against Danville. That game willt ake place on Friday, Jan. 3.
