The Southeast Conference released its 2023 All-Conference volleyball team last week. The Union area has the league’s most represented team, and the conference Player of the Year.
Fairfield led the SEC with six names on the list. Washington had five, including 2023 Player of the Year Leighton Messinger, and Mt. Pleasant put three names on the list.
The Trojans had three players named to the All-SEC first team. Seniors Maddie Jones and Rowan Terrell were both named to the list, as was junior Lilly Bergren.
Jones, a setter, racked up 633 assists this season, and also sneaked in 34 kills. She also led the Trojans with 51 service aces.
Terrell collected 144 kills for the Trojans this season. She was second on the team with 33 service aces. Bergren led the squad with 219 kills on the year, and was also second on the squad with 245 digs.
Fairfield junior Claire Thompson was named to the All-SEC second team. Seniors Addi Ferrel and Savannah Hollander were honorable mentions.
Washington had five players named to the team, but Player of the Year Messinger was the only Demon to make it on the first team.
Messinger was also the only underclassman to land on the All-SEC first team. The sophomore finished the 2023 season with 243 kills to lead the Demons. She finished second on the team with 250 digs, and tallied a team-high 43 service aces.
Making the All-SEC second team for the Demons were juniors Ella Greiner and Lauren Hinrichsen. Seniors Remy Messinger and Maci Williams were named to the honorable mention list.
