With conference tournaments quickly approaching, the 2023 regular season has officially wound down, but a few area small schools ewre able to get a some games in before the weekend.
Monticello 2, No. 8 (3A) Mid-Prairie 1
The Golden Hawks dropped a tough one against Monticello on Day 2 of the River Valley Conference tournament at Northeast.
Mid-Prairie took the first set 22-20, but Monticello stormed back to win the next two games 21-18 and 15-13.
Jovi Evans had another stellar day, leading the team with 13 kills and 19 assists, and collecting 14 digs as well. Dakota Mitchell tallied 18 digs, and Harper Pacha had 10 kills.
No. 8 (3A) Mid-Prairie 2, Bellevue 0
The Golden Hawks took down Bellevue in a two-set battle as part of the River Valley tournament. Mid-Prairie took sets 28-26 and 25-20.
Huber had 14 kills in the game to lead the Golden Hawks. Evans finished with 13 kills, 21 assists and 14 digs. Mitchell had 19 digs, and Avery Helmuth chipped in 16 assists.
English Valleys 2, Keota 0
English Valleys defeated Keota in South Iowa Cedar League play, beating the Eagles 25-23 and 25-19 on Friday night.
Cassandra Swantz had three kills, three service aces and six assists for Keota. Grace Conger, Izzi Chalupa and Olivia Lyle all had three kills as well.
Defensively, Kimberly Clarahan’s 18 digs paced the team. Izzi Chalupa had 11.
