RIVERSIDE — All 14 River Valley Conference teams showed up at Blue Top Golf Course to vie for the league title Tuesday. West Branch left with the team championship. Tipton’s Bob Ryan was the individual champion with a 76.
Mid-Prairie’s lone senior, Dominic McCain made nine pars on the day to finish with a 10-over-par 82, tying for fourth and earning RVC Elite All-Conference. That makes four years in a row a Golden Hawk has earned that honor.
McCain started with a double and was 4-over par after four holes. He played the front nine in 3-over 39. He parred his last two holes of the day to finish his back with a 43.
A cool and windy day ended with the Golden Hawks excited about their finish. The Golden Hawks posted a team score of 389 and placed seventh, two back of sixth and five behind fifth.
"The bunkers and tough contours of the greens caused some problems, but they managed and were able to put up good scores,“ Mid-Prairie coach Kelby Bender said.
Drew Schlabaugh shot two rounds of 49 to finish with a 98. Warren Scarff struggled and shot a 55, then played the front in 44 to finish with a 99. One hole got Aiden Bush and kept him from shooting his average. He shot 57-53 for 110.
