Mid-Prairie and Van Buren County baseball teams fill Class 2A All-District list

It should be no surprise that two of the most successful Class 2A baseball teams in the Southeast are also the two most represented on the region’s All-District list.

After a season that saw Mid-Prairie go 27-7 and spend much of the year in the Top-2 in the rankings, and one that saw Van Buren County (26-4) make its first state baseball tournament since 2016, the Golden Hawks and Warriors filled the Southeast region All-District teams, which were released last week.

The teams are picked by the Iowa High School Baseball Coaches Association. Each Class and area names two teams of area All-Stars.

Mid-Prairie had five players named to the All-District squad, including three on the first team.

Ace pitcher Collin Miller, who finished the season 6-0 for Mid-Prairie was named to the Southeast District first team in his senior year. Senior teammate Alex Bean was named as an outfielder after hitting .392 this year, and Brady Weber earned a spot as a utility player after hitting .329 and going 5-0 on the mound.

Mid-Prairie had two second team names. Senior first baseman Cain Brown (.295) was named to the squad, as was Brock Harland, who was named as a pitcher after a 4-0 year.

Van Buren County had three players named to the Southeast first team. That included Warrior senior ace Taylor Sprouse, who went 4-1 on the mound this year, including a win in the substate final game.

Junior second baseman Lucas Fett hit .384 this year on the way to earning a first-team nod. Jackson Manning was named as a utility player after hitting .532 on the mound and going 2-0 on the mound. Manning hit the 60 RBI mark this season, which was tops in the entire state of Iowa.
