Golden Hawks sky to No. 1 in 2A after three straight victories

What a start it has been for the Golden Hawks of Mid-Prairie on the baseball field.
With a semifinal finish in last years state tournament, the Golden Hawks are on the right trajectory to make another tournament run this season.
After a big week that saw the Mid-Prairie win three straight over some tough opponents, the Golden Hawks have sky rocketed to No. 1 in the latest Class 2A Iowa High School Baseball Coaches Association’s Rankings released on Monday.
It’s the first time since 2004 that the Golden Hawks have held the No. 1 ranking. They won the state title that same season.
This past week saw the Golden Hawks down Bettendorf on Thursday, No. 4 (Class 2A) Williamsburg on Friday and West Branch on Saturday.
Currently, Mid-Prairie sits at 5-2 on the season.
The two losses came against Class 4A No. 4 Johnston and Monticello.
Statistically, the Golden Hawks are batting .257 as a team with 47 hits and 37 runs scored.
Leading Mid-Prairie at the plate it junior Karson Grout.
Grout is batting .391 with nine hits and eight runs. He also has one home run to go with five singles and three doubles. Grout has three RBIs as well.
Joe Hall is batting .385 with five hits, five singles and two runs. Hall has five RBIs as well.
Dylan Henry is hitting .364 with a team second-best eight hits on eight singles, four runs and five RBIs.
Hitting .333 is Collin Miller. Miller has six hits on six singles, three runs, with one RBI.
Leading the Golden Hawks in RBIs is Alex Bean. Bean has eight RBIs on six hits and four runs. Bean bats with an average of .273 thus far.
On the hill, the Golden Hawks have an ERA of 3.06 with an opponent average of .237.
They have given up 44 hits, 21 earned runs, 23 walks and 55 strikeouts.
Brock Harland, Carson Pence, Miller, Henry and Bean have all accumulated one win while throwing on the mound.
