Mid-Prairie basketball teams split wins in West Branch
The Mid-Prairie basketball teams ended the 2016 half of their season Tuesday, Dec. 20, with contests at West Branch. The girls ended their game with a 60-57 win while the boys fell 44-73.
Mid-prairie took the lead after the first quarter and never looked back as they went up 19-13 after the first eight minutes of action.

The Mid-Prairie basketball teams ended the 2016 half of their season Tuesday, Dec. 20, with contests at West Branch. The girls ended their game with a 60-57 win while the boys fell 44-73.
Mid-prairie took the lead after the first quarter and never looked back as they went up 19-13 after the first eight minutes of action.
The Golden Hawks added another 14 points in the second quarter while West Branch scored 13 putting the score at 33-26 at halftime.
After the break, Mid-Prairie notched another 15 points while West Branch scored 16 putting the Mid-Prairie lead at 48-42.
The Bears would have a rally in the fourth quarter scoring 15 points, but Mid-Prairie held onto their lead by adding 12 to get the win.
Ali Butters scored 21 points in the game, had four rebounds and five assists. Addie Rath had 14 points in the game, scored four rebound and had seven assists.
Ireland Hostetler had 10 points along with nine rebounds, two assists, one steal and four blocks.
Caitlyn Riggan scored seven points, had two rebounds, one assist, one steal and one block. Anna Vilovchik had four points, three rebounds, two assists and one steal while scoring four points as well was Shae Becker who had four rebounds in the game.
In the boys? game, West Branch would have control of the boards the entire game, putting 22 points in the first quarter to Mid-Prairie?s six.
The Bears scored another 18 in the second quarter to the Golden Hawks? 10 putting the score at 40-16 at halftime.
Coming back for the second half of the game, West Branch wanted to keep their lead in place as they scored 26 points and held Mid-Prairie back to only nine.
Mid-Prairie would outscore West Branch in the final quarter, putting up 19 to their hosts? seven, but it wasn?t enough as West Branch would get the win.
Caleb Statler led the team in scoring with 18 points. He also had seven rebounds and four blocks in the game.
Ryan Slaubaugh scored six points, had three rebounds, one assist and one steal. Cary Schaefer had five points, four rebounds and one block.
Brad Tornow scored four points and had three rebounds and three assists. Derek Rich had three points along with five rebounds, one assist and one steal.
Carter Reinier scored two points, had three rebounds and one assist. Tom Butters had two points, five rebounds, one steal and one block. Scoring two points apiece were Josh Slaubuagh and Peyton Miller.
The girls have a 5-3 record and the boys are 2-5 heading into the break. The next boys? game is Monday, Jan. 2, when they are host to Highland beginning at 7:30 p.m.
Both teams see action Thursday, Jan. 5, at Mediapolis. Start time is 6 p.m.
