WILLIAMSBURG — The 2023 high school boys soccer season kicked off for Mid-Prairie on Thursday, as the Golden Hawks went toe-to-toe with Williamsburg in the opener.
Unfortunately for the visiting Golden Hawks, the Raiders were too much in the first game of spring, knocking off Mid-Prairie 6-1.
The Golden Hawks let up four goals in the first half, as Williamsburg took a 4-0 lead into halftime. Mid-Prairie put up one goal in the second half, but the Raiders scored two of their own to run away with the victory.
Senior Noah Ford scored the Golden Hawks’ only goal of the game. It was unassisted. Tucker Miller, a junior, led Mid-Prairie with two shots on goal. Daniel Rodgers, another junior, paced the team with four total shots.
Junior Joe Hall was in net for Mid-Prairie and had to do some work to fight off a Williamsburg team that put 16 shots on goal. Hall saved 10 shots on the day.
Mid-Prairie fell to 0-1 with the loss. The Golden Hawks’ second game of the year is at home against West Liberty on Monday night. As of press time, that game has not finished.
