There was a familiar name at the top of both the boys? and girls? races at the River Valley Conference meet on Thursday night.
Held in Iowa City, Mid-Prairie saw five athletes post top-four finishes in their respective races, highlighted by a team championship and an individual championship.
The Mid-Prairie boys? team claimed their first River Valley Conference title, helped by runners finishing in second, third and fourth place at the meet.
?This conference has produced four state champion teams in the last five years,? Mid-Prairie assistant coach Aaron Fleming said. ?Winning against a field with such strong tradition is quite an honor.?
En route to the team title, Peyton Miller took second place with a 16:36, while Zach Pettit finished in third with a 16:27 and Floyd Evans finished in fourth with a 16:40.
Quinn Schmidt just missed out on the top 10, with an 11th-place finish, posting a 17:08 on the night. Marshal Teets rounded out the scoring with a 19th-place run (17:28), while Andrew Schwartz (21st, 17:40) and Brent Foster (23rd, 17:48) completed the varsity team.
On the girls? side, Anna Hostetler cruised to an individual championship in her junior season, posting a 17:42, while her sister, freshman Marie Hostetler, took second place with an 18:05. The third-place finisher (Monticello?s Paige Holub) came in at 18:51.
?Anna Hostetler dominated the field with a conference-record shattering performance that ranks among the best times in the state for all classes,? Fleming said. ?Marie Hostetler continues to post some of the best freshman times in the state; Anna is the only runner Marie has lost to all season, so she is getting quite the collection of silver medals.?
Greta Schmidt was the next runner for the Golden Hawk girls, taking 27th overall with a 21:00, and Abbagail Evans took 29th with a 21:09. Kessa Jones took 33rd with a 21:22, while Kyleigh Graham finished the day with a 21:58.
Abby Tornow took 46th with a 22:11 for 46th, while Moriah Brase finished in 49th, taking a 22:12.
Mid-Prairie?s girls finished in second place as a team, scoring 91 points, compared to conference champion Monticello?s 35.
The Golden Hawks will run their state-qualifying meet at Pella on Thursday.
