WELLMAN — Mid-Prairie High School has canceled its football game scheduled for Friday with Iowa City Regina.
The non–district game was to be played in Wellman at Mid-Prairie’s Dwight G. Sattler Field. The game will not be rescheduled.
“We have a number of players that cannot suit up and so we felt it best to cancel,” Mid-Prairie athletic director Tyler Hotz said.
Mid-Prairie has a 1-1 record with a 55-13 win over West Burlington-Notre Dame and last week’s 42-12 loss to Sigourney-Keota.
Regina is 2-0 and ranked third in the AP poll in Class 1A. Regina defeated Williamsburg 16-14 in the opener then West Liberty 34-6.
In Friday postgame comments to the Southeast Iowa Union, Mid-Prairie head coach Pete Cavanagh said, “We were in a situation where we had to run a certain kind of formation,” Pete Cavanagh said. “We’re a little thin up front right now. We’ve had a few injuries and whatnot.”
