WILLIAMSBURG - A scheduled road date with West Liberty was postponed and instead of facing the Comets, the Mid-Prairie boys basketball team was able to travel to Williamsburg Tuesday. The nonconference game produced quite a battle.
No barns were damaged in the area, but it was a barn burner of a game for Mid-Prairie and Williamsburg in the Raiders' 74-70 win.
Mid-Prairie's Carter Harmsen was hot enough to start the burning with a career-high 36 points. He added 10 rebounds.
Tied at 16 apiece after the first quarter, Mid-Prairie led 39-37 when Jack Pennington sank a three-quarter-court throw to end the first half.
A hot start in the second half led to a 58-51 advantage for the Golden Hawks at the end of the third quarter. But that evaporated when the Raiders caught fire and closed with a 23-12 final stanza.
Alex Bean's stat line for the Golden Hawks had 16 points, two assists, and four rebounds. Ethan Kos had 10 points, five rebounds and a block. Will Cavanagh contributed precise passing with seven assists and had 10 rebounds.
