DONNELLSON — It didn’t take Mid-Prairie long to set the tone against Central Lee on Friday night.
The Golden Hawks (3-4) coupled some stellar play in the trenches with some outstanding work on the ground and through the air in a 33-13 Class 2A District 5 victory over the Hawks (3-4).
Mid-Prairie’s defense made a statement early.
Just four plays in, the Golden Hawks stunted the Hawks opening drive with a fumble recovery.
Then the Hudson Ehrenfelt show began.
On the Golden Hawks first play, the Golden Hawks lead back in Ehrenfelt darted out of the backfield down across the middle and quarterback Brady Weber dropped the ball right into his hands for a 36 yard gain.
On the next play, Ehrenfelt blistered into the end zone from six yards out to give the Golden Hawks their first score of the night.
They would never trail and it was just the start of a big night for Ehrenfelt, who would find the end zone three more times.
The sophomore posted team-best on the ground and through the air.
He carried the rock 23 times tallying 167 yards and four touchdowns. Ehrenfelt also caught two passes for 75 yards.
After keeping Central Lee off the board once again, the Golden Hawks capped off a 13 play drive with yet another touchdown by Ehrenfelt, this time from three yards out.
Prior to the score, Weber and Ehrenfelt connected once again on a big gainer. This time the pair notched a 40 yard completion.
Both sides of the ball continued to click for the Golden Hawks.
Mid-Prairie stopped Central Lee on fourth down on the following drive and in just four plays, the Golden Hawks found the end zone once again.
Weber hit Kaden Kos for the 41 yard touchdown to make it 21-0 and the Golden Hawks would take that lead into the half.
Mid-Prairie would score just two more times, but the lead would suffice.
On the first drive of the second half, Mid-Prairie gave the ball to Ehrenfelt five straight times and he finished it off with a three-yard touchdown run to push the game to 27-0.
Central Lee would score with 7:24 left in the game, but Ehrenfelt would close just like he started, in the end zone for the fourth time.
The Hawks scored once more, but it wouldn’t make a difference.
Brady Weber went 8-for-12 with 154 yards and one touchdown.
Along with Ehrenfelt, Weber rushed for 64 yards.
Kaden Kos had 50 receiving yards along with his score and Grady Miller 23.
On the defensive side of the ball, Kos totaled 10.5 tackles. Conner Wiles followed with seven.
Mid-Prairie will take on Albia (4-3) next week.
