Mid-Prairie girls advance in postseason

WELLMAN - The Mid-Prairie girls basketball team is one step closer to making their second-straight appearance at the State basketball tournament as they defeated Central Lee Wednesday, Feb. 15, 80-54.
It was clear from the onset who would get the win as M-P would pull ahead after the first quarter 22-8.
The Golden Hawks would score another 15 in the second quarter and Central Lee would add 17 to put the score at 37-25 at the half.
M-P would dominate the boards in the third quarter scoring 24 points and would hold Central Lee back to 15, making the lead 61-40 after three quarters of play.
An additional 14 points for would be scored by Central Lee in the fourth quarter, but it wasn?t enough as M-P secured their victory by adding 19 more points to the scoreboard to get the win.
Addie Rath led the team in scoring with 27 points. She also had six rebounds, four assists and four steals.
Ali Butters scored 15 points, had four rebounds, four assists and had two steals.
Shae Becker had 10 points in the game along with three rebounds, one assist and one block.
Ireland Hostetler also scored 10 points in the game. She had seven rebounds, two steals and one block.
Anna Vilovchik scored eight points, had two rebounds, four assists and two steals.
Caitlyn Riggan scored seven points, had three rebounds and one assist in the game and Abby Frantz scored three points and had one steal.
The girls go on with a 17-6 record and will face Center Point-Urbana Saturday in Williamsburg beginning at 7 p.m.
The winner of that game will be the champions in Class 3A Region 7 action and will advance on the State tournament in Des Moines at the end of the month.
