Mid-Prairie girls hold off Fairfield, Pekin at home meet
Golden hawks win 8 events to finish atop standings in Wellman

WELLMAN — Three Union area coverage teams were in Wellman on Thursday for the Golden Hawks’ girls track meet, and each of them finished the night in the Top-3.
Mid-Prairie scored 152 points in its home relays, for first place. Fairfield scored 109, for second, and Pekin took third place with 102.
The Golden Hawks won eight events on the day, all in the track. Mid-Prairie had four individual wins and four relay wins.
Mid-Prairie swept the long distance events. Abby Fleming took the 3000-meter run in 11:09.80, and Danielle Hostetler took the 1500-meter run in 4:41.71. Hostetler beat out teammate Sydney Yoder (4:58.11) for first place.
Mitzi Evans picked up a win for the Golden Hawks in the 800-meter run, crossing the tape in 2:19.48. Behla Schmit won the 100-meter hurdles, taking it in 17.07 seconds.
Mid-Prairie had a great night in the relays. The sprint medley team won in 1:50.22. The 4X200 team won in 1:52.92. The 4X100 squad took first in 51.34 seconds, and the 4X400 team scooped up another victory, in 4:10.84.
Fairfield had three wins in its second-place run. In every Trojan win, Fairfield also took second.
Anna Dunlap won the 100-meter dash and 200-meter dash. Dunlap edged Kelsey Pacha in the 100, crossing in 12.79 seconds, while Pacha finished in 13.10. In the 200, Dunlap crossed in 26.99 seconds, beating out Danielle Breen (28.26).
Pacha picked up a win of her own in the 400-meter dash. She crossed the line in 1:07.04, finishing ahead of second-place Mallory Lyon, who crossed in 1:11.75.
Pekin had four wins en route to third place. The Panthers had two individual wins and two relay wins.
Pekin’s individual wins came from Sarah Eubanks and Kerrigan Pope. Eubanks won the 400-meter dash in 1:06.36, beating out teammate Emily Laumeyer (1:09.91). Pope tossed the shot put 35 feet, 7.75 inches for the Panthers’ only field win.
Pekin’s 4X800 team won in 10:50.57. The distance medley squad took gold with a final time of 4:41.35.
