WELLMAN — The Mid-Prairie girls basketball team continues to show out in its quest toward a state tournament appearance.
The Golden Hawks used a stellar second quarter and fourth to blow by Tipton, 52-25, in their quarterfinal matchup.
Tipton kept the game close in the first, 8-5, but Mid-Prairie would take sole control in the second.
Mid-Prairie outscored Tipton 19-0 in the second quarter to take a 27-5 lead. The Tigers never had an answer after that.
In the third, Tipton got the better of the Golden Hawks, 11-9, but Mid-Prairie still held a commanding 36-16 lead.
The deal was done in the fourth, as Mid-Prairie capped off the win with a 16-9 quarter.
Maddie Nonnenmann scored 16 points and pulled down eight boards to lead the Golden Hawks. Amara Jones added nine points, six rebounds, and four assists. Josie Greiner finished with seven points.
Mid-Prairie will face off with West Burlington in the Region 4 Semifinals on Wednesday, Feb. 16.
