WEST LIBERTY — Consistency was key for the Mid-Prairie girls golf team in the Class 2A Region 5 tournament last week. The Golden Hawks had just one player in the Top-6 scores, yet shot well enough to grab a hold of one of two state qualifying banners.
Mid-Prairie finished the Region 5 tournament with a 392, a full 15 shots above third place Beckman Catholic, and just eight strokes behind first-place Anamosa.
Sophomore Madi Davidson led the Golden Hawks with a 92, just one stroke back of individual champion Olivia Hines of Mediapolis. Madelyn Bender was the only other Mid-Prairie player under 100, shooting a 98.

The next four Golden Hawks were all in contention to score. Elliot Debler and Addison English rounded out the Top-4 with a couple of 101s. Gabi Robertson shot 102, and Alexa Huber finished at 104.
The Golden Hawks will be one of the youngest teams in the Class 2A field when the tournament begins in Cedar Falls on Thursday. Mid-Prairie’s top six includes one senior, one junior and four underclassmen.
The tournament will begin at 9 a.m. on Thursday with a shotgun start. Day 2 of the tournament starts with tee times Friday morning at 8:30 a.m.
