Mid-Prairie girls run 1st, boys 5th in cross-country
36th annual Monticello meet dominated by girls Golden Hawks

MONTICELLO — Mid-Prairie sophomore Danielle Hostetler had a freshman close behind her in Saturday’s cross-country race, the 36th Monticello Invitational.
Hostetler won the race and her top-ranked (Class 2A) Golden Hawks won the team title, clipping the host Panthers, ranked sixth in 2A, by 14 points. Other ranked teams included No. 8 Western Dubuque, No. 12 Davenport Assumption, and No. 14 Center Point-Urbana in Class 3A, 2A’s No. 3 Tipton, No. 4 Jesup and 1A No. 9 North Linn.
Mid-Prairie boys finished fifth behind four ranked teams: two in Class 3A (No. 8 Western Dubuque and No. 18 Center Point-Urbana) and two teams ranked third (Tipton in Class 2A, Maquoketa Valley in 1A).
Hostetler edged Noelle Steines of Calamus Wheatland — 17 minutes, 56 seconds to 18:00. Third place was more than 1:39 behind Steines. Mid-Prairie senior Sydney Yoder was seventh in 19:53.
Thaddeus Shetler spurred Mid-Prairie with his third-place finish.
