WELLMAN — Columbus traveled to face Mid-Prairie in the Class 1A girls soccer postseason Wednesday with the result much like an earlier meeting except for the location.
The two teams played May 3 at the Wellman Rotary soccer complex, but this match was played on the Mid-Prairie football field due to the amount of moisture at the complex.
The previous match was scoreless at halftime but turned into a 7-0 win for Mid-Prairie. The Golden Hawks seemed to have liked the different location. Mid-Prairie turned it on in the first half this match, scoring five goals. Five more goals in the second half, and it was a 10-0 victory for Mid-Prairie.
The Wildcats couldn’t tell where the scores were coming from as eight different Hawks found the net for a goal with Sophia Baker and Esther Hughes kicking two goals. There were seven assists with Kaitlin Martin and Evelyn Gerber passing out two apiece.
Martin and Gerber also scored a goal apiece with Julia Boller, Kina Miller, Emma Slaubaugh, and Katrina Curtiss each connecting on a goal.
Boller, Miller and Leah Bontrager produced one assist each.
Columbus ends its season with a 7-5 record. Mid-Prairie (11-5) will play Tuesday at Solon (13-5), which defeated Central Lee 8-0.
