Mid-Prairie girls win in overtime, boys team loses to Tipton Tuesday
The Mid-Prairie basketball teams faced Tipton in the Tim Grady Gymnasium Tuesday, Jan. 10, with the girls ended their game in an overtime victory while the boys lost their game.
In the girls game, Mid-Prairie took the lead early going up 10-7 after the first quarter.
They added another seven in the second quarter while Tipton added six more, putting the score at 17-13 at halftime.

The Mid-Prairie basketball teams faced Tipton in the Tim Grady Gymnasium Tuesday, Jan. 10, with the girls ended their game in an overtime victory while the boys lost their game.
In the girls game, Mid-Prairie took the lead early going up 10-7 after the first quarter.
They added another seven in the second quarter while Tipton added six more, putting the score at 17-13 at halftime.
After the break, Mid-Prairie scored 10 points while Tipton added 11 to put the game within three. The Golden Hawks would score another nine points in the fourth quarter while the Tigers would respond by scoring 12 to tie the game at the end of regulation.
In the extra period, the scoring would remain close as Tipton scored five, but Mid-Prairie would pull away, scoring seven to get the 43-41 win.
Ali Butters was the top scorer for the Golden Hawks, putting up 16 points. Addie Rath and Shae Becker both scored 11 while Delaney Smith contributed three points coming from outside the arc and Anna Vilovchik scored two points.
Butters had two rebounds, two assists and two steals in the game. Rath had nine rebounds, two assists, five steals and one block. Becker had a double-double for the night with 13 rebounds, one assist and six steals.
Smith had two rebounds, three assists and two steals while Vilovchik had one rebound and two assists.
The game started off close for the Golden Hawk boys Tuesday as they would have a 19-15 lead after the first quarter.
However, Tipton would score 24 in the second quarter to Mid-Prairie?s 15, putting the score at 34-39 Tipton as the teams headed to the locker rooms.
After the break, Mid-Prairie would eat away at their deficit putting up 17 points, but Tipton would keep their lead as they scored 19 making the difference eight points to the visitors? favor.
Mid-Prairie would outscore Tipton 17-16 in the fourth quarter but it wouldn?t be enough to secure a victory for Mid-Prairie as Tipton would put the final score at 74 -68.
Derek Rich led the team in scoring with 17 points while having seven rebounds, four assists and one steal.
Caleb Statler had 16 points, one rebound and three blocks. Carter Reinier scored 13 points while having five rebounds, eight assists and one steal.
Tom Butters had 10 points in the game along with nine rebounds, one assist, two steals and two blocks.
Brad Tornow scored four points, had three rebounds, three assists and two steals. Cary Schaefer also scored four points in the game while having one rebound and one block.
Dominic Pickard had two points and one assist and Kyle Miller had two points, two rebounds and one block.
The girls? win gives them an 8-3 record while the boys fall to 3-9 for the season. Both teams will play against West Branch Friday in Wellman. The girls game begins at 6 p.m. with the boys to follow.
