Mid-Prairie girls win, No. 10 boys lose at West Branch
Golden Hawks on road for soccer action Friday

WEST BRANCH — The Bears and the Golden Hawks split their soccer games Friday with the visiting girls from Mid-Prairie taking a 5-1 victory and the boy Bears defending their soccer cave to defeat No. 10 (Class 1A) Mid-Prairie 2-1.
When any number of players have the ability to generate goals, it is tough to defend as West Branch discovered when the Golden Hawk girls ran up a 3-0 score by halftime.
Mid-Prairie got goals from Paytin Swartzentruber, Sophia Baker, Evelyn Gerber, Katrina Curtiss and Paityn Jennings all produced a score and Baker added an assist. Esther Hughes contributed an assist.
The Hawks host Washington Thursday. Mid-Prairie is 9-5 while West Branch falls to 3-7.
West Branch improved its boys record to 10-1 while the Hawks fell to 8-4.
Ethan Trimpe scored for Mid-Prairie. Justice Jones had 12 saves on 14 shots.
Keokuk plays in Wellman Monday and starts the postseason Thursday, hosting Pella Christian (2-11).
