The Mid-Prairie cross-country team was near home in Wellman for the Iowa Mennonite meet on Monday night, and came away with more strong results.
The Golden Hawk boys finished the night with the top three individual finishers en route to a team title at the competition, while the girls? team had the top two individual finishers to take second place as a team.
The boys? team was led by Peyton Miller on the night, as he claimed the individual title at the Wellman Golf Course, running a time of 16:54, while Zach Pettit was a step behind him for second place with a 17:26.
?Peyton Miller scored his second win in a row, but Zach Pettit gave him a great run for the money as both boys ran season-best times, breaking the 17-minute mark on a tough, hilly course,? Mid-Prairie assistant coach Aaron Fleming said. ?It was Zach?s first time as the team?s second runner and a 17-second personal record.?
Floyd Evans was next up for the Golden Hawks, taking third place overall, posting a time of 17:26.
Quinn Schmidt sneaked into the top 10 at the meet with an 18:10, good for ninth place, while Andrew Schwartz claimed a 13th-place finish with an 18:19.
Rounding out the varsity team was Marshal Teets, who ran an 18:29, while Brent Foster had a 20th-place finish with an 18:33.
?One sign of the team?s improvement is that we?ve faced Clear Creek-Amana three races in a row, and our margin of victory keeps increasing with each race,? Fleming said. ?In cross-country a score of 27 is mathematically unbeatable, so tonight?s score of 28 is just fantastic.?
On the girls? side of the meet, the Golden Hawks were led by their stellar pair of sisters, as Anna Hostetler outkicked her younger sister Marie for an individual title.
Anna?s time of 18:08 and Marie?s time of 18:11 were both career bests, and more than two minutes faster than the third-place finisher.
Mid-Prairie?s Abbagail Evans posted a 21:55 on the night for a 13th-place finish, while Kyleigh Graham (22:30), Kessa Jones (22:34) and Greta Schmidt (22:36) finished in 20th, 21st and 22nd respectively.
Abby Tornow finished the meet in 33rd on the day with a 23:51 to round out the varsity times.
The Hawks finished with 57 team points, just being edged out by Solon, who posted 54 team points.
?The girls are definitely moving in the right direction,? Fleming said. ?The rate of improvement we?ve seen in the last two races has just been fantastic.?
Mid-Prairie will run at North Linn on Saturday morning at 9 a.m.
