WELLMAN — As the quest for a state tournament appearance continues, the Golden Hawks of Mid-Prairie continuously break records.
In the Golden Hawks’ Thursday night Class 2A District 12 semifinal victory over Mediapolis, they did it again.
The 57-31 victory over the Bulldogs marks the team’s 22nd consecutive win, a record that was set by the 1990-91 Golden Hawk squad.
Mediapolis didn’t make it easy, though.
After being a very tight and contested game throughout much of the first three quarters, Mid-Prairie finally pulled away in dominating fashion.
The Bulldogs came within three points, 32-29, with just over two minutes to go in the contest, but that’s when the game changed.
Following a timeout from Golden Hawks’ head coach Daren Lambert, Mid-Prairie unleashed a 24-0 run on the Bulldogs, propelling them to yet another victory and sending them through to the district final.
Ethan Kos finished with 18 points for the Golden Hawks. Carter Harmsen ended with 13 points and 11 rebounds.
Mid-Prairie will play West Burlington on Feb. 22 at Mt. Pleasant High School for a spot in the Class 2A Substate 6 Final.
