Mid-Prairie junior varsity wraps up 8-4 campaign

Freshman quarterback Ryan Cortum threw a touchdown pass and ran for a score to lead the Mid-Prairie junior varsity football team to a 20-6 win at West Burlington-Notre Dame on Friday night.
Cortum ran for a 1-yard touchdown in the first quarter to put the Golden Hawks up 7-0, but the Nikes responded with a score to trim the lead to 7-6. The score would remain the same until Cortum threw an 11-yard touchdown pass to freshman Paul Hawbaker in the third quarter. Freshman Nolan Faselt, who rushed for 162 yards on 26 carries in the game, ran for a 12-yard touchdown in the fourth quarter to put Mid-Prairie up by two scores.
Freshman Cameron Tolander led the Golden Hawk defense with 13 tackles, and he also forced a fumble and intercepted a pass. Freshman Karson Duwa made 11 tackles, and Faselt had nine stops and a fumble recovery. Sophomore Cody Knepp and freshman Hogan Frascht both intercepted passes in the game. Sophomore Matt McGaffey and freshman Jacob Adrian both recovered fumbles, while sophomore Dylan Schrock forced a fumble.
The Mid-Prairie freshman and junior varsity squads combined to finish the year with an 8-4 record, winning seven of their last eight contests.
