Mid-Prairie lands three on All-Union team
Golden Hawks lead the way in area small school volleyball selections

Another season of Union area high school volleyball is in the books, which means its time for the 2025 installment of the All-Union small school volleyball team.
Mid-Prairie leads the way with this year’s captain and coach selections, along with two other players. The Golden Hawks were the final area team standing this season after they returned to the state tournament in 2025.
Hillcrest Academy, Columbus and Pekin represented the Southeast Iowa Super Conference North with All-Union honors. SEISC South side Van Buren County also landed a player on this season’s squad.
Here is the full 2025 All-Union small school volleyball team.
Coaches of the year: Sherry and Zeb Evans, Mid-Prairie
Mid-Prairie’s co-head coaches earned the honor for the second straight season after an outstanding 2025 campaign for the Golden Hawks.
Zeb and Sherry led Mid-Prairie to Xtream Arena in Coralville for the Class 2A state tournament where it was the No. 7 seed. The Golden Hawks finished 30-10, including 6-1 in the River Valley Conference. They defeated Davis County and West Liberty in the 3A Region 7 playoffs and knocked off Center Point-Urbana in a five set thriller to make a return trip to state.
Captain: Jovi Evans, Mid-Prairie, senior
Evans retained her spot as captain of the All-Union small school squad. The senior led Mid-Prairie and ranked third in all of Class 3A with 432 kills this season.
Evans was a do-it-all player for the Golden Hawks. She also racked up 402 assists and 424 digs, both top three on the team. She added 34 blocks and was named to the 3A All-State first team in 2025 after earning second-team honors last year.
Jeorgia Evans, Mid-Prairie, sophomore
Evans joins her older sister on this year’s All-Union team after an outstanding sophomore campaign. Evans earned 3A All-State fourth team honors and ranked second in the class in digs with 579.
The sophomore was third on the Golden Hawks with 213 kills and had 56 service aces this season. Evans projects as a long term star for a surging Mid-Prairie program.
Avery Helmuth, Mid-Prairie, senior
Helmuth capped off her high school volleyball career by leading the Golden Hawks in assists with 582. That tally ranked No. 20 among 3A players and helped earn Helmuth All-River Valley second team honors.
The Golden Hawks setter paired her offensive output with with 209 digs. Helmuth also connected on 90% of her serves this season with 11 aces.
Niva Helmuth, Hillcrest Academy, senior
Helmuth was the lone member of the Ravens to log over 100 kills this season and even breached the 200-kill mark. She finished the campaign with 203, the second most by a player in the SEISC North.
The senior earned first-team All-SESIC honors for her effort. Helmuth also led the Ravens with 37 blocks and had 44 service aces.
Ashlynn Huff, Van Buren County, senior
One of two VBC players on a stacked All-SEISC South first-team, Huff led VBC with 326 kills, the fifth most in the division, and helped the Warriors win 19 matches in 2025.
The senior was also strong defensively with 284 digs and 27 aces to wrap up a productive senior campaign. She led VBC to a fourth-pace finish in the SEISC tournament.
Kennedy Woepking, Columbus, senior
Another member of the All-SEISC North first team, Woepking led Columbus with 172 kills, the fourth most in the division.
Woepking also led the Wildcats with 41 service aces and was second on the team with 237 digs. Her output helped Columbus to a 7-1 mark in conference play and a win over Louisa-Muscatine in the first round of the Class 2A Region 1 playoffs.
Paislee Coleman, Pekin, junior
Coleman ranked third in the SEISC North and led Pekin with 184 kills in a strong junior campaign. Coleman’s outstanding offense earned her a spot on the All-SEISC North first team.
The junior will be one of the division’s top returners next season. She also finished second on the team with 134 digs and was tied for third with 25 aces.
