Golden Hawk girls smash Albia in regional quarterfinals

WELLMAN - The Mid-Prairie girls basketball team made quick work of visiting Albia in the opening round of the Class 3A Region 5 tournament on Saturday night. The Golden Hawks rolled the Blue Demons 57-29.
Mid-Prairie jumped out to an early lead, taking a 17-5 advantage after one quarter. The Golden Hawks took a commanding 41-15 lead into the halftime break.
Albia played Mid-Prairie nearly evenly in the final two quarters. Mid-Prairie led 52-22 after three quarters, cruised to the finish line in the fourth.
The Golden Hawks were co-led by Brookly Schneider and Nora Pennington. Schneider went for 13 points and seven steals, and Pennington finished with 13 points of her own.
Callie Huber ended the night with eight points and eight rebounds. Morgyn Bender scored seven points. Jovi Evans scored five. Harper Pacha had four. Katelyn Harland had three points, and Brylee Gearhart and Myli Hershberger both finished with two.
