Golden Hawks drop down one spot in this weeks Class 2A rankings

The Iowa High School Baseball Coaches Association release yet another round of rankings this week and the Golden Hawks of Mid-Prairie are the lone Union area team gracing the list.
Mid-Prairie was named the No. 1 team in Class 2A last week, but this time around the Golden Hawks have drop one spot and are now No. 2 in the class.
Defending state champion and preseason No. 1 Van Meter is back in the top spot.
In the past week, the Golden Hawks finished with an overall record of 3-3.
Mid-Prairie kicked off the week with a pair of wins over Wilton 8-1 and 11-1.
The two victories marked nine straight wins for the Golden Hawks through a week and a half of action.
In their next matchup, Mid-Prairie took on the Spartans of Solon.
It was a tough go for the Hawks as their win streak was ended in a 7-6 loss.
The Golden Hawks last victory of the week came against Wilton once again. Mid-Prairie downed the Beavers 8-2.
To end the week, Mid-Prairie competed in North Scotts’ Lancer Baseball Invitational.
The Golden Hawks suffered back-to-back losses, first against Cedar Falls 11-1 and then to Class 1A No. 8 Burlington Notre Dame 9-4.
Mid-Prairie will look to get back on track this week with a trio of games against Regina Catholic and Treynor on Saturday.
Junior Karson Grout leads the Golden Hawks at the plate with a batting average of .429. Grout also has a team-high 21 hits and 12 RBIs. He’s also lead with one home run.
Senior Alex Bean has an average of .367. Bean has 18 hits with a team-high 17 RBIs.
Sophomore Brady Weber has an average of .312 with 10 hits and seven RBIs.
Joe Hall, a junior, has an average of .306 with 10 hits on the season with seven RBIs.
Three additional Golden Hawks have double digit hits as well, which includes junior Dylan Henry, senior Collin Miller and senior Cain Brown.
Brock Harland and Miller both have a 3-0 record on the hill this season.
Harland has an ERA on 0.45 on the season, giving up just 14 hits with 16 strikeouts.
Miller has an ERA of 1.79 with 22 hits allowed and a team-high 39 strikeouts.
