Mid-Prairie, Pekin, Mt. Pleasant ranked

Mid-Prairie, Pekin and Mt. pleasant all find themselves in the various Iowa high school football rankings after a wild Week 7. Mid-Prairie and Pekin are in both and the Iowa High School Athletic Association rankings and the Gazette rankings, while Mt. Pleasant appears in only the IHSAA poll.

Listed below are both rankings, along with playoff rules for the smaller classes. This week will be the last week for Class 8-Player, A, 1A and 2A, while Classes 3A, 4A and 5A have two regular season weeks left.

The IHSAA’s RPI and committee rankings after Week 7

The Iowa High School Athletic Association has released its first RPI rankings for Class 5A, Class 4A and Class 3A, and its committee rankings for the other four classes.

In 5A, RPI completely decides the 16-team playoff field.

In 4A and 3A, the top two teams in each district are automatic qualifiers. The four at-large teams are determined by RPI.

In 2A, 1A and A, the 32 qualifying teams are easy to determine, it’s the top four teams in each of eight districts.

In 8-Player, the top three teams qualify from each of 10 districts. Two qualifiers are determined via the plus/minus-17 rule.

Rankings in the four smallest classes are used for seeding and pairings only and have no bearing on qualification.

Three regular-season weeks remain in 5A, 4A and 3A. For the other four classes, it’s two regular-season weeks.
