Mid-Prairie set to defend state title

EDDYVILLE - Mid-Prairie has a Class 2A girls state team track title to defend and put themselves in good position to do that by advancing 11 events to the state meet Thursday-Saturday at Drake Stadium in Des Moines.
The Golden Hawk boys will send five events to state.
Marie Hostetler led the way with three individual victories (800 meters in 2 minutes, 23.6 seconds, 1500 in 4:47.16, 3000 in 10:47.44) and anchored the distance medley with Abbagail Evans, Cassidy Rourke and Amber Swart to a winning time of 4:16.37, which was the best qualifying time of the 24 who made state. Hostetler's state-qualifying times in the 1500 and 3000 were also the best and her 800 time was fifth.
Maddie Edgington, Rourke, Mitzi Evans and Swart were the winning sprint medley team at 1:51.52, which qualified to state fourth.
Another winning relay was the 4x1 of Swart, Mitzi Evans, Edgington and Abbagail Evans. Their time of 50.70 is second qualifying.
Mitzi Evans was second in the 800 and ninth to state at 2:24.04. Angelina Evans was fourth in the 1500 and her time of 5:16.73 is 16th for state.
The 4x8 took second in 10:14.46 with Abbagail Evans, Angelina Evans, Moriah Brase and Kate Cavanaugh. They go to state as the 20th qualifier.
Tori Boyse made state as qualifier 17 with a third-place throw of 115 feet, 2 inches in the discus.
The 4x2 was fourth, yet 13th qualifying as Swart, Rourke, Edgington and Abbagail Evans ran a 1:49.38.
The boys got three seconds (4x2 in 1:33.1, sprint medley in 1:36.4, 4x8 in 8:24.66), a third (4x1 in 45.07) and a fourth (Jack Baker's 140-10 in the discus) to qualify for state.
Clarke Latcham, Quinn Schmidt, Grant Boyse and Elmir Ganibegovic are 17th as qualifiers in the 4x2.
Schmidt, Brad Tornow, Miles Burrows and Justin Schwartz are 13th in the 4x8.
Latcham, Schmidt, Ganibegovic and Boyse are 11th in the sprint medley.
Latcham, Caleb Thomas, Boyse and Ganibegovic are 22nd in the 4x1.
Baker is 15th in the discus.
