Keaton Duwa scored on the Mid-Prairie seventh-grade football team?s first possession of the game to give his team an 8-0 lead, and that was all the Golden Hawks needed as they defeated Sigourney-Keota 8-0 on Oct. 4.
After Duwa?s touchdown, quarterback Karson Gingerich kept the ball on an option play to tack on the two-point conversion. From there, Mid-Prairie?s defense held Sigourney-Keota scoreless.
The Golden Hawks moved the ball up the field throughout the game, but three times they were stuffed inside the 10-yard line by a tough Sigourney-Keota defense. Gingerich was 5-for-6 passing the ball, and backup Ryan Slaubaugh completed his only throw. Cary Schaeffer and Eli Steckly both had a pair of catches in the game, while Terrhyn Jacoby, Josh Slaubaugh and Cole Ours nabbed one each.
The Golden Hawk seventh-graders, who improved to 3-1 on the season, host West Branch at 4:15 p.m. today.
